Learn how to use these apps to help you save money, time, and hassle when you’re grocery shopping.
If you are a frugal gal like me, then you are always looking for some ways to save money. Whether it’s a cent or a dollar, it does not matter because it can still add up.
So in today’s topic, we’ll dive into the free apps for saving money on groceries. You will learn what are the free apps out there that you can use when shopping.
You will also learn how to use these apps as I walk you through how I use these apps myself.
After today, you should be able to start using these apps so that you can save more money and help achieve your financial goals faster.
Now, these are not the only apps out there; actually, there are still a ton of them; however, I am only sharing the ones I used, which worked for me.
Besides, using a lot of apps can eat up your time too, so be very selective on the ones that you use.
Best Apps To Save Money On Groceries
Drop App
The Drop App is a fantastic app because it does not require a lot of work. The only thing that this app asks you to do is to link your credit/debit card.
After that, when you use the card to purchase from the participating merchants that you chose, you will get credit in the form of “drop.”
The cool thing about using this app is that you can double-dip if you are collecting travel rewards points on your credit card.
When you reach a certain threshold, you can then redeem your points for gift cards from Amazon, AMC, Domino’s, Groupon, and more.
You can get your first $5 when you sign up using my referral link d0m46.
Ibotta
Ibotta is one of my favorites apps for saving money on groceries out there. I have already saved over $1000 just by using it. This app enables you to earn cashback from your everyday purchases.
There is a little more work involved in using this app than the Drop App. After downloading the Ibotta app and creating your account, you will then build a shopping list by adding offers.
After buying the items, you will then scan your receipt to get your cashback.
Checkout 51
Checkout 51 is another cash back app that can save you money from your everyday purchases. It works the same way as the Ibotta app.
You just add the offers to your list and then scan your receipt after purchasing the items.
What makes it more exciting is that sometimes both apps have an offer on the same product, which means more savings for you.
Shopkick
Shopkick works a little differently than other apps. It rewards you just by walking into a store.
In addition to that, you can also earn more credits called “kicks” when you scan some of the products offered, and some more “kicks” if you end up buying that product.
You can also earn more kicks in-store and online when you link your card, and even when you complete some tasks like watching a video.
You can then redeem these “kicks” for a wide variety of gift cards like Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Target and more.
ReceiptPal
ReceiptPal is a fantastic app that turns your receipt into points that you can use to redeem for gift cards. You can also earn points by connecting your email account and Amazon account.
The best thing about this app is that it can work on any receipt that is from purchase for personal use. I use this app on my grocery receipt, gas, and dining receipts.
Four scanned receipts are worth 100 points, and the minimum amount of points for redemption is 2000, which is worth $5.
Fetch Rewards
Fetch Rewards is another fantastic app that rewards you for scanning receipt. The only difference form ReceiptPal is that this app only works for grocery receipts.
Once you reach 3,000 points, you cand redeem for a $3 gift card from Dunkin Donuts, Target, and more.
Step By Step Guide On How I Use these Apps
1)MAKE A LIST
It is always important to make a list before you go shopping. It curbs the impulse to buy unnecessary items.
2)PICK A STORE
I usually start by picking a store, and if the store that I’m going to is on the Drop App’s list, then I make sure that I use the linked credit/debit card when purchasing. Usually, it can be Walmart or Target.
3)ADD TO LIST
I would then open up the Ibotta app, choose the store and then search if there are offers for the products on my grocery list. If not, I will go for other alternatives(but I make sure it’s not over my budget)that they have. I will do the same thing on the Checkout 51 App.
4)WALK IN THE STORE
Before I walk into the store, I will open my Shopkick app to get credit for walking in.
5)SCAN PRODUCT
I will continue using my Shopkick app to scan products. If I have more time, I will scan other offers, even though I will not buy them.
6)BUY PRODUCT
After getting all the stuff on my list. It’s time for checkout. I make sure that I use the card that’s linked to the Drop App so that I won’t miss out on the points.
7)SCAN RECEIPT
Now the fun part begins. I will start scanning my receipt on Ibotta and Checkout 51 to get cashback.
And then, I will scan the same receipt on the Shopkick app if I bought some of their offered products.
And with the same receipt, I will scan it to ReceiptPal app and then the Fetch Rewards.
Then, I’ll watch the points and, cashback adds up.
Last Thing You Need To Know About These Money-Saving Apps
To make these apps work for you, you need to be consistent. And only buy what you need, not just because they are part of the offers.
If you are like me, who is forgetful at times, try to make it a habit to scan your receipts before you drive home.
While there are many ways to make money, there are also many ways to save money. These apps may not save you a lot of money, but it can save you some that can add up over time.

I haven’t thought about using apps to save on groceries before I imagine if you use several different shops then it would be a good way to save money instead of picking up points from a loyalty card as the points from all you’re shops could be used to redeem for one item. I think it might be good to do a follow up post where you see how many points you can earn in say a month and test the apps.
Hi Bumbles, some of the apps can be used as a supplement to any saving strategy that you are already doing, and you can use them in most shops. Thanks for the idea, that would definitely something I would look into.
There are so many apps for saving money on groceries, but I am not sure which one is better. I will try to compare a few and let you know which one works.
