Is MyPoints a legitimate way to make extra cash or is it just another app to waste your time?
MyPoints is a popular rewards website that offers its members the possibility of accumulating points to exchange them for prizes or cash. However, is MyPoints legit?
I can’t blame your skepticism because there are a lot of advertised ways to make money out there, but most of them end up to be just another scam.
So before you make your decisions, here are some of the things that you need to know about MyPoints to ensure that you will make the right decision.
WHAT IS MYPOINTS
MyPoints is a consumer-rewards platform, founded in November 1996 in Delaware. Its parent company Prodege, LLC, also owns other online consumer-rewards platforms like Inboxdollars and Swagbucks, to name a few.
HOW DOES MYPOINTS WORK
Like any other rewards platform, Mypoints rewards you with points by completing certain tasks like shopping online, sharing your opinion through surveys, watching videos, searching the web, and many more.
Once you’ve accumulated enough points, you can redeem then it through e-gift cards, cash through Paypal, or miles for travel.
WHO IS MYPOINTS FOR
MyPoints is FREE to join for everyone in the United States and Canada. If you are not in the US or Canada, you can still sign up, but you have to take note that not all prizes are available to you for redemption.
WHAT ARE THE WAYS TO EARN POINTS
One of the strengths of MyPoints from other consumer-rewards platforms is that it has multiple ways on how to earn points.
ONLINE SHOPPING
When you shop online through MyPoints, you earn points for your purchases. They have over 1,900 popular retailers, which include Macy’s, Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and more, so it is most likely that your favorite retailer is among them.
DOWNLOADING SCORE
Score is a browser extension that provides you with alerts and available coupons when shopping online. It is available on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. It is instrumental, so as not to miss points when shopping online.
SHOPPING LOCAL DEALS
If you like local deals, you can also earn points when shopping through Groupon and LivingSocial.
READING EMAIL
Receiving and opening emails can be rewarding with MyPoints. You can earn up to 5 points just by clicking. They are called BonusMail.
ANSWERING SURVEYS
If you love sharing your opinions, you can answer market research surveys and be rewarded for your time. You might not qualify for everything, but you will still get credited for your attempts, up to 5 points.
WATCHING VIDEOS
You can earn points just by watching videos and completing video playlists. A playlist can consist of up to 40 short videos, which can take from 25 mins to more than an hour.
DISCOVERING CONTENT THROUGH nCRAVE
You earn points when you are introduced to new and relevant websites and videos through nCrave.
FINDING DEALS
MyPoints has a lot of offers to choose from when you are on the market to try a new app or subscription. They offer a significant amount of points. For example, as I am writing this, there is a featured offer to earn 8,100 points when you sign up for HelloFresh.
SEARCHING THE WEB
When you do your online search through MyPoints, you’ll get the change to be rewarded with points.
PRINTING COUPONS
There are also points of opportunity when you print and redeem manufacturer coupons. The more you print, the more points you earn. This can be useful when you are trying to save on groceries.
PLAYING GAMES
If Bejeweled or Solitaire is your thing, you can earn points just by playing. If not, no worries, there are also dozens of other popular games that you can choose from.
REFERRING FRIENDS
MyPoints also rewards you for referring your friends. You can earn up to 25 points for every successful signup.
WHAT ARE THE REDEMPTION OPTIONS
E-GIFT CARDS
Once you reach the minimum redeemable points, which varies from merchant to merchant, you can choose from over 70 retailers’ e-gift card. At the time of this writing, the minimum e-gift card available is a $3 Amazon, which requires 250 points.
CASH
If you want cash for your points, you have to have at least 3,970 points to redeem $25 on your Paypal account of 1,500 points for a $10 Prepaid Visa.
TRAVEL MILES
If you prefer to convert your points into miles, you have to have 3,200 points to redeem 1000 miles with United.
MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH MYPOINTS
I have been a member of MyPoints for quite a while now, but I have been mostly inactive. I only use it when I am shopping online, and when they more a better offer than Rakuten or Swagbucks.
I found that the surveys are hard to qualify for. Although they credit you for those surveys, it still takes up your time. For me, it is not worth it.
Their playlists are a bit long, and it will take a lot of your time if you keep at it. So, what I usually do is play the videos on my tablet or phone and then do something else. I get more productive that way.
Completing the Daily 5 helps if you are consistent every day, but for me, I can only complete 3-4 tasks.
I signed up with MyPoints because I collect miles for my United Mileage Plus, and although it’s not much, it helps when I need to top off my miles.
I could earn more points if I commit more time in completing tasks, but at this point, I barely have spare time.
IS MYPOINTS LEGIT
So, is Mypoints legit? Yes, MyPoints is legit, and since they have been around for a long time, they must be doing something right. You can earn as many points as you can if you have the time and patience to put in.
But like any other consumer-rewards platform, they also have their weaknesses.
FINAL THOUGHTS
MyPoints is another rewards platform that can help you earn points that you can convert into a gift card, cash, or travel miles. It offers multiple ways to earn points so you can complete tasks and earn points whenever and wherever.
However, accumulating points can be time-consuming and requires a lot of patience. If you decide to try MyPoints, brace yourself for some frustrations.
But if you love surveys, Survey Junkie is worth a try.
