How To Successfully Start A Blog

Great tips on how to successfully start a blog when you are on a budget.

When you start a blog, it is crucial that you need to set the stage. By doing this, you will have a clearer picture of how your business will look like.

Every blogger has a purpose why they started blogging, and you are not an exception. You should be able to come up with at least a couple of why you wanted to blog.

Some of your “why” may be to have a creative outlet or you want to change people’s lives.

I started blogging because of two reasons; to document our personal finance journey and to eventually make money.

After finding your purpose, you need to set clear goals for yourself. It needs to be something that can motivate you when your blogging journey gets tough.

By having goals, you will most likely achieve your purpose. Write down your big goals and break them down into smaller achievable goals.

Before starting your incredible blogging journey, you have to have the right mindset. As a beginner, you will find that it will be pretty overwhelming at first.

There will be so many things to learn that you’ll find yourself tempted to throw in the towel.

However, if you do a little each day, believe in yourself, and keep on going, everything will work out just fine.

And if you’re just blogging for the money, you may find that you will not be able to quit your job sooner than you expected.

I am not saying that you will not make money, because YOU WILL! It will just take time, hard work, and a lot of patience.

When you just start blogging, it is normal to want to start blogging about everything that you think about.

You start to think that if you blog about a lot of things, then your reader will never leave your site. She will have everything she needs on your website.

WRONG. It’s basically FOMO(fear of missing out).

When you start targeting everyone, you’re basically attracting no one.

I started with a very broad niche, and it was a disaster. It slowed down my growth because I have no focus.

The more niched your blog is, the better you’ll be.

Choosing a topic to blog about can be hard, but you can start with what you are passionate about.

What’s your expertise? What do people you’re good at?

However, you do not need to be an expert on something before you blog about it.

You can blog about your experience in your journey or how you achieved something.

For example, you can blog about your journey to becoming a first-time mom or your journey to early retirement.

The skills you developed from your journey will set you apart from other bloggers and will appeal to tour readers.

Your niche should be something that you will be excited to talk about for many years to come.

It should be something you can write about again and again.

While it is important that you should be passionate about what you will blog about, it is also crucial to choose the niche that will be profitable.

Some of the areas that people are willing to pay for our health, wealth, and relationship.

People are passionate about this because they want to be healthy, feel good, live longer, and have energy.

People are passionate about their money. They want to make money, save money, and build wealth.

A relationship is something that people cannot do without because they are social beings.

These categories are broad and can be broken down further into more specific niches.

For example, you can niche down Health into Healthy Diet, which can be niche further down to Gluten-Free Diet For Beginners.

The same with wealth. You can niche it down to Making money, which can be niche down further to Making Money From Home.

You can niche down Relationship into Dating, which can be niched further to Dating for Divorced Women Under 50.

It would help if you came up with a domain name that is easy to spell. The last thing you want is to have your domain name misspelled once you start sharing your blog.

Your domain name needs to be something that is catchy and easy to remember. A catchy and easy to remember domain will make you stand out from the crowd.

Choose a domain name that is unique and suits your brand. If your blog is in the food industry, don’t pick a domain name related to the auto industry.

When your readers see your domain name, they should be able to know what your blog is all about.

Last but not least, make sure your domain is not already taken. Use websites like or to check if your chosen domain name is still available.

You can always go with a free platform, but if you are serious about blogging and want to make money from it, you need to be self-hosted.

Having a self-hosted site will allow you to completely own your website and have full control and free will to monetize it.

And choosing the best web host to sign up can get really confusing because there are a lot of options.

There are important things you need to consider when choosing the best web host.

  • Affordable Plans
  • Easy to Install
  • Free Add ons
  • Great Customer Service

Some of the good ones are Siteground, Hostgator, and GoDaddy.

Godaddy does not have an outstanding reputation among bloggers, especially their customer service. However, I have been using them for my domains, and when I create microsites. So far, I have yet to have a problem.

Meanwhile, Siteground has an excellent reputation for excellent customer service, security, and speed. It offers free 1-click WordPress install, free security, and cache features for speed and FREE SSL certificate. However, you do not get a FREE domain.

On the other hand, when you sign up for Hostgator, you will get a FREE domain and ONE YEAR FREE domain registration. You will also get a FREE SSL certificate and instant back up.

If you are looking for a cheaper alternative for Siteground, Hostgator is the way to go. There is no contract, and you free to cancel anytime.

Here are the best tips on how to start a blog successfully with just a minimal investment.

Now that you’ve chosen a great web host, you now want to create your WordPress blog. You can follow this step by step guide to create a WordPress site.

After setting up your WordPress site, the next step is crucial. You now want to set up the foundation of your blog.

Check out this step by step guide to building a WordPress site.

A brand is the face of your business. This includes your logo, color, font, etc.

The look and feel of your brand are going to be the first impression your soon-to-be readers see when they visit your site.

It can be the deciding factor whether or not you are professional enough for them to follow, subscribe to, and buy from.

By having a brand, you will also make it easier for your readers to recognize your business from anywhere.

Here are some quick branding tips:

  • Select 2-4 colors that complement each other and consistently use only those colors in all of your brandings
  • Choose 1-2 fonts and stick with those fonts only
  • Make sure your branding is easy to read – the simpler, the better

My friend, Emma, created a really good course on how to brand your business, check it out here.

Now that you “niched” down and created an amazing website, it’s time to start identifying who your ideal customer is and start writing your blog posts to them directly.

Create your avatar. Define who they are and where they live. What are their likes and dislikes? What jobs do they do? What are they struggling with?

Having a targeted audience will help you create helpful content that your audience will actually read.

Content is the very core of your blog. This is the reason why people come to your blog. Every article should have a purpose and solves a problem.

On deciding what topics to write about, you should think about what your niche target market wants to read.

Focus on their pain points. How can you help and teach them with your blog?

Go where your niche target market hangs out, such as online forums and Facebook groups.

Read their problems, questions, and comments, and you will find tons of inspiration for blog topics.

Then do keyword research. A keyword is a word or group of words that someone might type on Google when searching for something.

Choosing the right keyword will help your content be found on search results.

You can use a free tool like Ubersuggest or Google search itself. Or invest in an affordable premium tool like Keysearch.

You can learn more about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) later on. For now, focus on setting up the foundation.

Now, after you hit “Publish” and launched your blog, it’s time to move on to the next part of your blogging journey.

And that is all about growing your online presence, generating traffic, and – finally – setting up the revenue sources that will make your blog turn a profit.

You want to promote your content through social media marketing and also email marketing.

Social media marketing is the activity of promoting your blog, brand, products, and links to social media platforms to gain traffic, attention, and sales.

You can start a Facebook Page for your blog, create an account for Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram.

Socialize and engage with others in your niche. Comment on their blogs, share their content, feature them in your posts.

Every time you engage, answer questions and share your expertise online, you’re building your online presence and your credibility as an authority in your niche.

Share your content across your social media and be consistent. Use smart scheduling tools to put your content on autopilot.

I use Tailwind for scheduling my pins and Publer to schedule my posts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

As you begin your blogging career, you want to make it a top priority to focus on growing your email list. Then make it your #1 focus to nurture them.

Having an email list of subscribers who read your emails is a sure-fire way to promote your blog and eventually make money online.

And it’s never too early to start building your list. So if you haven’t started one yet, start now

There are a lot of ways to monetize your blog; however, you always need to consider your avatar. Don’tDon’t just slap an affiliate link or an ad on your blog and call it a day.

Think twice, even ten times, if it’s going to help your avatar. Does it help with their pain points?

During the early days of my blogging journey, I was “chasing” the money. Every affiliate that I came across, I applied. And as soon as I got accepted, I started promoting it on my blog. I was eager to make money.

Wondering how much I made?

I made nothing because it did not align with my readers. I was not solving their problems. Neither was I helping with their struggles. I just wasted my time and effort.

So before you start promoting a product, think of your avatar first.

Tracking your income and expenses from the start is very important. Remember, you are now a business owner.

You need a simple budget to plan how much money is coming in and how much is going out. You want to have organized finance come tax season.

As a new blogger, try to keep your expenses as low as possible. If there is an upgrade available for a tool that you use, but the free version still works, stick with the free version for now.

Always think of profits first. You need income to keep your business afloat. However, if your blog is not bringing in money yet, look for some side hustles that you can do for now as you grow your business.

You will likely succeed if you treat your blog as a business. As a business owner, you will invest time, money, and effort into your blog.

You will strive to consistently create content that is informative and helpful to your readers.

You will also set goals and come up with strategies that will help you reach your goals.

And most importantly, when you treat your blog as a business, you will most likely strive to succeed and never quit.

As a beginner blogger, it is entirely normal to be overwhelmed and overlook the legalities of blogging. I didn’t have any idea either when I started blogging.

However, the sooner you make your blog legal, the better off you’ll be. Besides, you worked so hard on your blog that you’ve invested a lot of time, money, and effort into it. Therefore, you deserve the peace of mind by protecting yourself from lawsuits.

The three legal pages that your blog needs are Privacy Policy, Terms and Conditions, and Disclaimer.

To create these pages for your blog, you can hire a lawyer, which can be really costly. I would not recommend this for a beginner blogger. Remember, you are trying to keep your expenses down.

You can also use free legal templates that are available on the internet, which I doubt if they are compliant enough with the laws.

The last option is through paid legal templates written by a lawyer. I went this route because I’dI’d rather have pages professionally written by a lawyer. It doesn’t cost a much as hiring a lawyer, and it is deficient as that of a free legal template.

There you have it! Those are some of the tips on how to successfully start a blog.

Blogging is a marathon of ups and downs. Although you will not make thousands of money tomorrow, by creating a great blog first, you are in for a soon-to-be profitable blog.

Is Survey Junkie Legit Or An Awesome Way To Make Money?

Is Survey Junkie A Scam?

Survey Junkie promises that you’ll make extra cash, would you trade your time?

If you’ve been looking for some ways to make money online, then most likely you have come across Survey Junkie.

And of course, you’ve most likely Googled, “Is Survey Junkie Legit?” already. I can’t blame you because just by the name itself, it almost sounded like a scam.

I know because I thought the same way too when I came across Survey Junkie for the first time.

However, I did not let the name deter me from knowing more about it. This post will tell you what you need to know to make sure you will not miss out on the benefits or waste your time trying it.

Check out the legitimacy of Survey Junkie here.

Survey Junkie has been around for a long time but was launched back in 2013. They were used to be known Active Measure and then Blue Media Ventures.

DISQO, the online market research company, owns Survey Junkie. The name change happened in 2018. And since then, Survey Junkie has gained popularity and now has over 10 million users.

Survey Junkie is a free platform where people share their perspectives with market researchers, thereby helping improve the products they use. It is available in the US, Canada, and Australia.

As the name implies, you will make money by completing surveys. When you sign up, you will create a profile and answer questions about yourself and your household. Survey Junkie will use the information to select surveys that will fit you.

Surveys will be available to you when you sign in to your account, and you will also receive them in your email.

Every time you complete a survey, you will earn points. Before you take a survey, you will see how many points you will collect and how long will it take you to finish it.

Once you accumulated the minimum payout, which is $10 or 10,000 points, you will have the option to redeem it through cash via Paypal or gift card, like Starbucks or Amazon.

I wouldn’t have earned the right to write a review for Survey Junkie if I had not tried it myself.

When I signed up for Survey Junkie, it was pretty fast. I just provided my email address, zip code, date of birth, gender, and then a password. In less than 10 mins, I was starting to earn points.

What I liked about the signup process besides the fast method is that they also have a starter checklist that you can complete and earn points.

  • Signing up – 25 points
  • Complete profile – 50 points
  • Confirm email – 25 points
  • Take a “How it Works” tour – 5 points
  • Profile surveys – 10 points each, usually a dozen or so questions about a subject

After completing the signup process, I already accumulated 155 points. Not bad. I also started seeing available surveys that I can complete. The nice thing about the surveys is that they show the number of points you will make and how long will it take you to complete.

Therefore, if I know I am pressed with time, I can complete the shorter ones.

Is Survey Junkie A Scam

When I started taking surveys, I found that although the survey is available in my account, I still don’t qualify for all of them. I end up getting kicked out, but I still get points for trying.

I also started getting an email notification from Survey Junkie, telling me that there is a new survey available for me in my account. I found that if I do not log in right away, I will lose my chance.

When I met the minimum payout, which was $10, I opted for Paypal cash. The process was surprisingly fast, and I got to enjoy my money right away.

Absolutely YES. Survey Junkie actually has an A+ rating from Better Business Bureau. They deliver what they promise, and they have been around for a long time.

Is Survey Junkie a legit site? Yes, it is. I was able to try it myself and got my payout without any problem. Of course, you will not make a ton of money from it, but Survey Junkie will definitely pay you for your time.

Although Survey Junkie does not have all the bells and whistles that other rewards platforms have, there are some simple hacks that will help you optimize your earning potential when using Survey Junkie.

  • Dedicate A Separate Email For Survey Junkie
  • Install the Survey Junkie Pulse browser extension
  • Refer Your Friends
  • Download The Survey Junkie App

I hope this post answered your question, “Is Survey Junkie A Scam?”. Survey Junkie is a legitimate site to make money online if you have the time to spare.

I tried it myself, and I was able to make a little money from it. How did I find the time? I stopped scrolling down social media and started answering surveys instead.

In this post, you will learn the basics of how to start earning money from your blog.

How To Write And Get Paid Through Blogging

To have a profitable blog, you have to start it the right way. You have to have a secure professional-looking website with a professional hosting plan.

You can get all that with Siteground. When you sign up through this link, you will only pay less than $4 per month, and you will get a FREE SSL for your domain.

The way your website looks will create a first impression on your readers. Make them stay and read your amazing content by having a professional-looking website.

Learn how to set up your site here.

Content is the bread and butter of your blog. It’s the reason why your readers come to your blog.

Therefore, it is vital to create content that is helpful to your readers.

So, before you start writing, here are some things you need to do.

An avatar represents the target audience. Therefore, your avatar needs to be specific.

You should be able to know everything about your avatar’s life, their needs, wants, struggles, goals, etc.

This was one of the mistakes I had made early on; I had a very vague avatar; I was trying to help everyone! As a result, my content was pretty much all over the place.

By having an avatar, you will be able to focus on creating content that will help, inspire, and teach your audience.

Refer back to your avatar and pay attention to their struggles — brainstorm on how you can help them.

If they are struggling with productivity at work, can you write a list of tips that can help them be more productive?

If they want to learn how to crochet? Are you able to write them a guide?

A keyword is the main focus word on your post. This word or group of words is what someone will type on Google when he or she is searching for something.

By choosing the right keyword, you will increase your article’s chance to show up on the search results.

You can use a free tool like Ubersuggest to research keywords.

If you post a click-worthy headline, your readers will likely click and read your article.

Headlines with numbers and superlative adjectives are popular.

You can also use a free tool like Coschedule’s Headline Analyzer to create a clickable headline.

Finally, write your heart out! Be yourself and use a conversational tone.

If you are worried about grammar and spelling, download Grammarly. It’s FREE.

Try to have 4-6 articles written before you launch your website. Aim for 1,000 words or better.

Your readers will likely stay longer on your site if they have more articles to read.

On the other hand, don’t wait until you reach 20 posts before you launch.

Remember, it will take 3-6 months before an article shows up on Google search results.

Therefore, the sooner you publish an article, the sooner you’ll get out of Google “sandbox.”

After spending time writing your content, take time to add images. Images make a huge difference in the user’s experience.

I don’t know about you, but when I see an article with no images, I leave the site right away.

Images help break up the text and make it easier to read.

You can use free stock photography from websites like Pexels, Unsplash, Pixabay, and more.

As I’ve mentioned, especially earlier, it will take a while before your site is out of the “sandbox.”

Therefore, make the most out of your time. Ust it to learn as much as you can, write epic content, and promote your content.

Share your content on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or on any other platform.

However, being active in all social media platforms will take a lot of your time.

You should be allotting equal time to learning, content creation, and promotion.

I use SmarterQueue to schedule my posts to go out to all of my social media.

It helps me to appear active on my social media during peak hours. You can try them out FREE for 30 Days.

As a beginner blogger, I would recommend using Pinterest.

Pinterest is also a search engine tool, but unlike Google, Pinterest does not have a “sandboxing” time.

If done right, you can show up on the first page.

Check out Pinterest Primer to learn more about Pinterest. It’s a FREE course.

After creating an account on Pinterest, you now have to create pinnable images for each of your blog posts.

I use Canva to create my pins, and they have tons of templates that you can customize.

Since you only have a handful of blog posts, I would recommend creating a bunch of pins for each of your blog posts and start pinning them on Pinterest.

However, make sure you space them out throughout the day so that it won’t look spammy. You might run the risk of getting suspended by Pinterest.

Now, I have a full-time job, and so do you, we do not have all day to be pinning on Pinterest.

This is where Tailwind becomes helpful. You can schedule your pins on Tailwind, and it will pin your pins during the best times of the day. Totally a timesaver.

You can get started for FREE here.

Once you start building your email subscribers, nurture them by sharing your helpful articles with them.

Convertkit is one of the most popular email service providers out there, and it makes sharing your content to your email list a breeze.

It easily integrates with your website, making it easier for you to create a landing page, create and send newsletters, automation, and more.

You can try them out for FREE here.

Here are some tips on how to start a blog and get paid from it.

Now that you have a website with great articles and impressive images, it’s time to make some money.

Affiliate marketing is one of my favorite way to make money blogging because, with affiliate marketing, you can start right away.

Simply put, affiliate marketing is when you partner with a brand or company, and you promote their product. In return, you will get a percentage commission.

The best thing about affiliate marketing is you do not need any investment to start, and you do not have to deal with customer service.

When you are just starting, do not go crazy on applying to every affiliate company that you run into.

Start small as you’re getting your feet wet. The best place to start is Shareasale. Check out my personal Shareasale review, where I show you how I made my first $100 as a beginner blogger.

They have a ton of affiliate companies that you can choose from.

Here are some of the best ones from Shareasale:

When you are ready to add more, Flexoffers has some good affiliate companies as well.

  • Airfarewatchdog
  • Credit Sesame
  • Expedia
  • Groupon
  • Macy’s
  • myFICO
  • Moosejaw
  • Personal Capital
  • Sephora
  • Trip Advisor
  • Walmart
  • Decluttr
  • Doordash
  • Hulu
  • Instacart
  • Paribus
  • Task Rabbit
  • Trim

Again, focus on a few affiliates and promote products that you personally use and love.

Create a spreadsheet to track your monthly affiliate income.

Michelle from Making Sense Of Cents shares her secret on how she went from $0 affiliate income to $50,000 per month in her course, Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing.

Display ads are one of the most common and easiest ways to make money from your blog. These are ads that are placed on your website that displays other companies.

These companies are paying you to increase brand awareness through your website.

The best thing about display ads is that it can be passive, and you do not need an email list to make money.

The only thing you can do is to drive traffic to your website.

Sponsorship can be a lucrative way to make money from your blog because of it’s high ROI(return on investment).

You can also start right away with sponsorship. It does not matter if you’re still a small blog.

You can choose the right brand for your blog and reach out to them.

You can start with blog networks like Activate, Izea, or Massive Sway to have an idea of how sponsorship works.

Creating your own product to sell can be a flexible way to make money from your blog. It can also be a great source of passive income.

Your sellable product can be physical or digital, like ebook, photos, courses, etc.

The downside of creating your own product to sell is customer service. Buyers, most of the time, will have issues on their purchases that you need to address.

If you have a lot of buyers, then you’ll be providing more customer service, which can be time-consuming.

Setting up a membership site can be a source of a steady income. If you have an expertise that can have you viewed as a go-to authority, a membership site will be perfect for you.

The most common type of membership site is a course. Creating a course will not only help you share your expertise with your students but also make you significant, if not a lot of money.

Other types of membership sites include a mastermind group, discount/coupon sites, PLR(Private Label Rights) sites, stock photography sites, etc.

Another way of making money from your blog is through offering services. If you have a skill that can help others, you can create a “Hire Me” or “Work With Me” page.

Now that you know how to monetize your blog, it’s time to figure out what is the best way for you to begin making money from your blog.

Eventually, you’ll need a business bank account; however, for now, I would recommend setting up a Paypal account.

Use Paypal for making payments and receiving payments so that you do not have to sift through your personal bank accounts.

There you have it!

Blogging can be a fun side hustle that has a lot of potentials to bring in money. However, it’s not a get-rich-quick scheme.

As you start building your blog, do not be discouraged if you only see pennies or even don’t see money dripping in. Always remember, you are building a foundation for your future success.

And no matter what you do, do not compare yourself to other’s journeys. Yours is unique!

Make Money Delivering Stuff (27+ Lesser-Known Ways)

Best Ways To Make Money Delivering Stuff

Your complete list on ways to earn money by delivering items.

Did you know that the Lyft drivers earn $364-377/month on average? I don’t know about you, but I think that’s pretty good money for a side hustle.

Ridesharing has grown significantly in the past year and is predicted to grow more in the coming years.

However, what if I tell you that you can make as much just by delivering stuff instead of people?

Unbeknownst to a lot of us, there are a lot of ways to make money delivering stuff. And the best part is you can use your car and you can do it on your own time.

Landing a delivery job is not complicated as any of us would think. You need to meet the basic requirements below, and you are good to go.

Like any other job, there is always an age requirement, mostly 18 years old, but if you are delivering alcohol, you need to be 21 years old.

Although some companies allow you to walk or bike, you will maximize your earnings if you have a car and can drive. Some companies might require you to have a clean driving record.

Most delivery companies use an app to find customers and complete the service, therefore a smartphone is a must.

If you plan to deliver goods by car, you have to have a car, either you own or rent. Also, you should be able to provide proof of insurance.

Rent a Car Driver for Uber or Lyft - HyreCar

Some delivery jobs require you to pass a criminal background check.

The best benefit of driving as a side hustle is FLEXIBILITY.

YOU ARE YOUR OWN BOSS. You do not need to answer to anybody.

SET YOUR OWN SCHEDULE. You can work whenever you want. If you are a morning person, you can work in the mornings and rest in the afternoons.

CHOOSE HOW MUCH WORK YOU WANT TO DO. If your family life is keeping you busy, you can work as little as you want. If you have a lot of free time, you can work as much as you want.

MAKE EXTRA CASH. If you are saving for something or paying off debt, driving jobs can help you achieve your goals. You can make money delivering stuff.

Make Money Delivering Alcohol

Alcohol Delivery Job Apps

Saucey is an alcohol delivery company that promises to deliver any liquor in as fast as 30 minutes or less to the Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, San Diego, Sacramento, & Oakland areas.

As a Saucey courier, you can turn your car, truck, or motorcycle into income by doing the delivery. You can also work at your own time, and the best part is, you can pick the town or neighborhood that you would like to deliver within.

Saucey claims that you can make $700+/week. Unfortunately, according to their website, they are no longer contracting couriers at this time.

Drizly, also know as the “Amazon of Liquors,” operates across the United States and Canada. Customers can order beer, wine, and liquor through the app and get them delivered in less than 60 minutes.

It can be tricky to be a Drizly delivery driver because it is not Drizly who will hire you, you have to get hired by the actual alcohol retailer. Therefore, you will work for one store at a time. The store owner will determine your pay.

Besides applying directly to retailers, you can also fill out your information on Drizly’s driver job board that allows your data to be sent to local retailer partners in your area.

Minibar is another alcohol delivery company that was established in 2014. With Minibar, you can order wine, beer, and liquor through their app and get them delivered straight to your door in 30-60 mins. They partner with local liquor stores; hence they do not need to have a liquor license.

They also do not do their own deliveries. They partner with third-party delivery companies like DoorDash, Postmates, Delivery Solutions, and Point Pickup. So to deliver for Minibar, you need to apply to the companies mentioned above.

A Complete Guide To Building A WordPress Website

A step by step guide to building a WordPress website for beginners.

Congratulations on finishing your WordPress website set up! Now, it’s time to learn some actionable tips on building a WordPress website.

Setting up your WordPress site was just the start; it’s the building that sets the framework of your website.

When I first started, I had no clue what I was doing. I just learn as I go, so it took me twice the time to figure things out.

So, to help you save time in building your WordPress website, here is a complete guide that can help you finish in no time.

The sooner you’re done, the sooner you start creating your content.

Simple Guide To Building A WordPress Website

The WordPress dashboard is where you control what goes into your website, codes, images, articles, and more.

Your website will have two parts, a front end, and a back end. The front end is what your readers will see when they go to your site while the backend is where you write your blog posts and customize your website.

Before you start writing posts or installing a theme, I would recommend you complete the basic settings first.

Completing your profile will help secure your account. Changing the default information will make it harder for hackers to go into your account.

Customize your site by adding your blog name and your tagline. If you do not have a tagline yet, don’t worry, you can add it later. I changed my taglines so many times in the past.

To do this, from your WordPress dashboard, go to Settings>>General.

Update the date and indicate your timezone.

To update, from your WordPress dashboard, go to Settings>>General then scroll down.

Updating your permalink structure is important for search engine optimization.

You would want your post URL to be instead of

To do this, from your WordPress dashboard go to Settings>>Permalinks>Select Post Name

Install A Theme

Now it’s time to install your website’s theme. A theme is the overall look of your website. And you have many options; you can go as minimalist as you like or as busy as you want.

When I started my blog, I went for a FREE theme because I was not making any money then.

Then as my blog grew and started to load slower, I upgraded to a premium theme.

As a beginner blogger, I would recommend the Astra theme because it loads faster than the other free themes, at least from my experience.

Also, you can pretty much customize almost everything. And the best part is, Youtube has a lot of tutorials, which makes it easier to use.

Once my site got a little more traffic, I upgraded to a Bluchic theme, which is more feminine and cleaner.

With the premium theme, I was able to get more customization, regular updates, and a bug-free guarantee.

After installing your theme, make sure to delete unused themes. It will help your site to load faster.

Branding is what makes your website professional. It sets you apart from other sites out there.

Select 2-4 colors that complement each other to have a uniform feel to your website.

Choose 1-2 fonts that you will use across your website.

Use your selected brand elements on your logo, site icon, images, and in all of your branding. Be sure to be consistent.

I use Canva to create all of my blog graphics. Canva makes it easy for me to stick to my branding.

This course will help you come up with a branding that will work for you.

Plugins increase the functionality of your WordPress blog. And most of the time, they are free.

However, it is important to note that you should only install and use plugins that you really need.

From your WordPress dashboard, you can access the plugins by going to Plugins>>Add New.

Check out these FREE plugins that you should have on your site. Make sure to delete plugins that you are not using.

The Posts section is where you will write and publish your blog articles. The one thing I recommend in this section is adding categories.

It will help you organize your posts, especially when you build up a good amount of content.

Here is a step by step guide on building a WordPress website that you can do as a beginner.

The Pages section contains contents that are not blog posts. Some of the pages that you should include are:

This is where you introduce yourself and what your blog is about. You can add a photo of you or your logo.

This is where your readers can contact you. I use the WPForms Lite Plugin, and it’s easy to set up.

You can set up your homepage, in which you can just display your recent blog posts, or you can have a customized page that contains your email sign up or product promotion.

As a beginner blogger, start with a simple homepage with your latest posts.

From your WordPress dashboard, go to Settings>>Reading>>Select “Your Latest Posts.”

If you are serious about your blog that you want to monetize it eventually, your blog should have all of these pages.

Although you can find free templates online, I would recommend using these Legal Bundle Templates made by a lawyer, so you are confident that you and your blog are protected.

Also known as the navigation bar or the top menu. It can contain your logo and your categories.

To access this from your WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance>>Menu>>Primary Menu

Also known as the bottom menu. It usually contains the legal pages and contact page.

To access this from your WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance>>Menu>>Footer Menu.

Widgets are basically areas on your website, which display information that is separate from your main content.

They can be located anywhere on your page, either side, on the footer, or any other areas that your theme allows.

They can contain ads, email optins, your recent posts, search box, etc.

Sidebar widgets are located on the side, either on the right or the left, but mostly on the right.

Set Up Social Media

When you are just starting your blog, Google does not know you exist yet. Your content will take a while to start showing on search results.

Therefore, you need social media platforms to share and promote your content.

However, I’d recommend starting with one or two social media platforms in the beginning.

Don’t spread yourself too thin. I have learned this the hard way. I tried to be everywhere. In the end, I was frustrated and had gotten nowhere.

Each platform has a different strategy. Try to master one platform first before moving to the next one.

A lot of bloggers found success with Pinterest. I, myself, have Pinterest as the primary traffic driver.

Start with Pinterest. Learn everything you can. This free course is perfect for beginners, and it helped me reach over 670K monthly views.

You can add Facebook since it’s the perfect place for networking with other bloggers as well.

Set Up Professional Email Address

Having a professional email address will help build trust with your readers.

I don’t know about you, but I would rather receive an email from a than from

If you have Siteground, it is so easy to do. Check out this video and follow along.

Add Email Sign Up Form

Collecting email subscribers is one of the things that seasoned bloggers recommend. However, this is something that you should not invest money on right away.

Start with an email provider like Mailerlite, which is free for the first 1000 subscribers. Once you build up your email subscribers, then you can upgrade to Convertkit, which has more functionality.

Set Up Google Analytics and Google Search Console

Last but not least, you will need to set up your Google Analytics and your Google Search Console to boost your SEO.

  1. Create a free Google Analytics account.
  2. Once logged in, click “Admin” in the lower-left corner.
  3. Click “Create Account”
  4. Follow prompts.
  5. You will get a code called meta tag, copy the code.
  6. Paste code into the <head> section of your website.

*If you have the Insert Headers and Footers plugin, paste the code on the Header section then save.

You will need the Yoast plugin and the Insert Headers and Footers plugin to connect the Google Search Console to your website.

After installing plugins, head over here for a step by step guide.

Finally, the last step is to submit your URL to Google.

  1. Go to Google Search Console.
  2. Click “Sitemaps” from the left sidebar.
  3. Remove sitemap.xml or any invalid sitemaps.
  4. Click “Add New Sitemap.”
  5. Enter sitemap_index.xml into the text box.
  6. Click “Submit.”

Wait a few days for Google to crawl and index your site and then check if your site has been correctly submitted to Google.

To do this, type into Google.

There you have it! You’re done building your WordPress website.

You now have a complete website. Now, all you have to do now is create great content that will help your readers.
